Studebaker US6 — American 2½-Ton 6×6 Military Truck
The Studebaker US6 was an American 2½-ton, 6×6 military truck developed during the Second World War for the transportation of troops, supplies, ammunition, and other military equipment. Produced by the Studebaker Corporation, the US6 was designed as a rugged and versatile truck capable of operating in demanding off-road conditions.
Built around a robust 6×6 chassis, the US6 combined a six-cylinder gasoline engine with a manual transmission and two-speed transfer case. Its three driven axles, leaf-spring suspension, and substantial ground clearance provided the mobility and durability required for military service. The standardized chassis was produced in numerous configurations, including cargo trucks, tanker trucks, dump trucks, and vehicles equipped with winches.
The Studebaker US6 became particularly important through the Lend-Lease program. Large numbers of trucks were supplied to Allied nations, with the Soviet Union receiving the majority of US6 production. There, the trucks became widely known for their reliability and ability to carry heavy loads across difficult terrain, earning an important place in Soviet wartime logistics.
More than 200,000 US6 trucks were produced during the Second World War, making it one of the most numerous American military truck families of the period. Although primarily intended for logistical duties, the US6 chassis was adapted to a wide range of specialized applications and played an important role in supporting Allied operations throughout the war.
With its distinctive 6×6 chassis, robust construction, and extensive wartime service, the Studebaker US6 remains one of the most recognizable American military trucks of the Second World War.
